Dear friend,
This is just a quick one.
I hope January has been kind so far and that you are managing to dodge the viruses that seem to be everywhere.
If January is proving to be unkind and/or laden with illness, then I hope that you are at least able to rest whenever you can.
Hang in there. Brighter days are coming.
If you’re new here: Welcome, and thank-you for subscribing.
I know I asked a lot of family and friends to subscribe, to get my list going, and I really appreciate your help!
I won’t lie. Putting myself out there and being openly vulnerable isn’t something I feel most comfortable with. Which I know is funny because writing is all about vulnerability. But I guess I had to do some unpicking of my own stories in order to ask for help. To put my hopes on display. To be seen.
Which leads me on to the purpose of this short note.
Following on from the first issue a few days ago, all about the focus of the month: Refresh, I wanted to not only check-in and see how things are going, but to share a few resources that, I think, could be really helpful.
Yesterday, I stumbled across a new Ted Talk by Melanie Klein. It’s all about the idea of the stories that limit us, and I think it’s worth watching as it really got me thinking about the idea of ‘collective liberation’.
It reminded me of just how far reaching our decisions can be. Whether they are mindful or mindless, there is always a consequence. An effect somewhere. A ripple.
Let me know what you think!
What are you reading at the moment?
I am waiting for Gabor Mate and Daniel Mate’s 2022 book The Myth of Normal to arrive. You can find links to it in my suggestions here at Bookshop.org.
I am recommending it before I’ve even read it simply because I have devoured a few of Gabor’s other books and I think they are just incredible. So I’ve no doubt this one will be as well. And what a great title! Refreshing ourselves of all the myths is what this is all about!
Another book I am looking forward to reading is The Yoga Manifesto by Nadia Gilani. It’s all about the cultural appropriation of yoga, which absolutely relates to everything we are thinking about this month. Refreshing our stories, listening for the truth of who we are, individually, but also collectively.
If you have read either of these, please do get in touch and let me know your thoughts. Likewise, if you have any suggestions for books that you’d like to share, then I’m all ears.
The Yoga Letters is a bimonthly newsletter, published every other Friday, and so I will be back in touch in two weeks time with the last letter for January. Though I may pop along with a quick update, like this, before then. But only ever on a Friday. I promise I won’t crowd your inbox.
Paying subscribers will also get access to my journal prompts pdf for January, the yogic philosophy essay for the month, and a guided relaxation.
That’s it for now.
So, until next time, with peace, love and endless kindness,
Louisa
