Four times a year and in-line with the seasons, I publish The Yoga Letters: a newsletter about yoga, inspired by my own experiences.
Relating to yogic philosophy, each issue is focused on a particular theme and includes journal prompts, a Spotify playlist, and for those moments when you just need to breathe.
Suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, The Yoga Letters is written with the heartfelt intention of offering out my hand, and, perhaps, a deeper understanding.
Who am I?
My name is Louisa Flynn and I am a yoga and wellbeing writer.
My words have appeared in the likes of Om Yoga Magazine, MANTRA Magazine, and Womankind Mag, as well as many other platforms and publications.
I am a certified yoga teacher (BWYQ Level 4 Certificate: 300 hours) and I am dedicated to my own yoga, mindfulness and meditation practices - which can look wildly different, depending on the day.
Why do I write The Yoga Letters?
Because yoga helps me enormously and, while I’m still trying to figure it all out, I am convinced that everybody can practice yoga and benefit from doing so.
From once being completely disconnected, to now, being on a journey of reconnection, my practice has become something that I try to live my life by, in each and every moment, on and off my mat.
As anyone who knows will tell you, being present (as opposed to being lost in thought) is a continuous practice, and so I share my insights purely in the hope that it may help others to keep trying.
In our increasingly digital (and artificial) world, where everybody appears to have their s**t together, and where real talk is something of a rarity, especially in wellness circles (perhaps for fear of being perceived as ‘negative’), I hope it is useful to read my words.
I am not here to preach or give advice because I don’t have it all sorted. Neither do I know any better, and nor do I purport that what I’m doing is the only way to live meaningfully.
I guess these letters are just my take on an ancient practice that enables me to go on living in this unpredictable world, and I am always, always learning.
A little more about my path and where I am coming from
Yoga is an ancient Indian wisdom, passed down from teacher to student. Therefore I wish to acknowledge all of my teachers: those who I have known in-person and those I have never met.
My most consistent teacher would be Ram Dass, whose teachings are a constant source of guidance to me; I return to Ram’s words again and again. I particularly love how Ram Dass blended the different paths of Yoga with Buddhism and Western psychology, and incorporated many of the world’s other faiths, ancient wisdoms and mystic traditions into his teachings.
The type of yoga I love the most is different to the polished images of perfectly flexible bodies, and the relentless theme of positivity that we are constantly being sold.
So, in this sense, I guess The Yoga Letters is about being real: real with ourselves and real with each other, in the hope that, by doing so, we can engage more fully with our practice, and also with our precious lives.
Why quarterly?
Put simply, there’s enough going on in the world and I don’t want to add to the endless noise and distractions.
Also, I think having the time and space to allow for personal reflection is a crucial component of trying to understand our own unique path.
Why subscribe?
By subscribing to The Yoga Letters, each season’s newsletter will arrive in your inbox.
As a subscribing member, you will receive:
Thought-provoking writing that draws from yoga philosophy
Uplifting Spotify playlists
Occasional pre-recorded guided relaxations and gentle yoga videos
Tailored journal prompts for self-reflection
and so much more!
Subscription to The Yoga Letters is complimentary for everybody.
However, if you’d like to make a financial contribution, then it would be warmly received.
Priced roughly the same as a magazine subscription, I hope it helps those among my readers who would like to pay for what they receive from me, and I hope it feels like a fair exchange.
And, as a bonus for paying subscribers, I will be creating specific content for those of us who like to write, called: TYL for Writers, in which the theme is further specified in relation to the practice of writing.
If you are able to support The Yoga Letters in any other way, such as sharing it on your platforms or within your networks, then please feel free to do so, and I always welcome queries about the possibility of collaboration.
